As Herni, now downgraded to a tropical storm, is +/- 50 miles south of Montauk, the current track shows a wider shift to the northwest. In addition, rather than that abrupt right at Albany, such as a guest almost missing the turn into Friend’s while texting, current projections now show the track exiting over Portland Maine which of course puts the outer bands much further away during departure.

The current marketing red meat in our neck of the woods is of course storm surge and the networks are already using shocking waves in the present. To be sure, in addition to the tidal moon and onshore winds, we also have a mid-day high tide schedule leaving little doubt that skim boarding in the Nauset Beach parking lot is probable. That said, anyone joining the annual pilgrimage to any area beach armed with libations and brimming with curiosity write there own story.

Unless conditions deteriorate beyond the forecasted increased winds and intermittent rain, I will issue an update at noon.

Be well and be safe,

Jon
