The Cape Cod Times is reporting that a fire broke out  in an unoccupied home around 5:30 at 20 Great Pond Place in Eastham on Thursday September 18th. The first engine on the scene had noticed flames at the rear of the one story 1516 square foot residence at which time 5 surrounding towns, to include Dennis, Brewster, Orleans, Wellfleet and Truro were brought into the fray via mutual aid. As the story continues, its indicated that “The blaze was quickly knocked down by the first engine that arrived…”

Apparently this was the same engine that prompted the request of 5 towns to assist.

Damage to the building, valued at $ 159,200.00 by the town assessor, is estimated to be in the area of $ 240,000.00 while the incident remains under investigation.

Born and raised on the elbow of the Cape and making second homes my first priority since 1998.

As a lifelong resident of the outer Cape I was the third generation to pick up the mantel in the family construction business. In my early twenties, I called the Cape my home on weekends as I spent several years working for a variety of off-Cape commercial construction companies.
